highlights
i figured it's finally time to stop procrastinating writing about our wonderful 2 week vacation in fear that i'll start to forget the little details that made it great.
such as:
-spending quality time with charlie's family and our nieces & nephews.
-yummy food
-old friends
-charlie surprising me with a hot air balloon ride! [i swear, my man deserves a metal]
-4th of july: picnics, parades, bbq, fireworks
-our oregon wedding reception/open house
-hiking at silver falls
-touring the tillamook cheese factory
-chinese gardens in portland
-shopping
-salem music festival
-watching my husband being SO fun and hands-on with our nieces & nephews [i'm beyond lucky, our kids are going to have the best dad.]
-lots of laughs
-visiting the portland temple
-enjoying the best summer weather possible. not too hot, not too cold. ahhh, bliss.
i feel like i'm forgetting so much!
a BIG thank you to everyone that made this pre-deployment trip amazing.
especially my in-laws for letting us crash at your house for 2 weeks, feeding us and letting us borrow your cars!
and now, a lot of pictures. [just warning you!]
until next year, oregon.
and this time probably for good. :)
better late than never!
we started off our trip to oregon by ALMOST MISSING OUR FLIGHT!
stressed.
stressed is the word.
actually, it's an understatement about how i was feeling.
because, i honestly don't get stressed. it's a rare thing. so when i DO it's so foreign to me that i laugh and cry at the same time my brain is going a mile a minute.
why did we almost miss our flight, you ask?
well, we can thank the good 'ol marine corps for that one.
our flight was schedule for 6:55pm so we figured we needed to be there at the latest by 6. which means we need to leave by 5 to get through traffic [even though the airport is only 20 minutes from our home...gotta love orange county drivers!] which means charlie needed to be off by 4 or 4:30.
his leave request papers were signed months in advance that he was allowed to get off work that day at 4:30.
so when the time came, he tried leaving.
ya, didn't work too well...
apparently some people don't care that we had to make a flight to go to charlie's hometown to spend time with his family before he serves our country for 7 months in the most dangerous country right now! UGH. [whew...had to let that one out]
so charlie calls me at 4:45:
C: "babe...we're not going to make it tonight. do me a favor and look to see what our options are for buying another flight or getting a stand by one for tonight or tomorrow"
i weigh out our options. i look online for last minute deals. i call our travel agent...nothing.
nothing under $700 for two on a last minute flight that is.
umm..hi, we're newlyweds that are trying to save up money. we don't exactly have an extra $700 bucks in our pockets.
*que praying*
*que tears*
charlie calls again at 5:30:
C: "they just left be off at 5:10. just wait for me and we'll go to the airport together to see what we can do."
*que more praying*
Charlie comes running in the door at 6:05, changes clothes in lightening speed, and we're on our way.
basically the only way we're going to make it is if the plane is delayed. but there's no way that'll happen..right?
we pull up to the airport at 6:56pm [mind you, our flight was at 6:55pm]
and what do i hear at the check-in desk?
"hello mr. and mrs. osborne, your flight has been delayed until 7:29pm"
THANK THE GOOD LORD!
we made it by the hairs of our chinny-chin-chin.
"thank you" is all i could say that night.

big red
we sold charlie's beloved truck last week.
it's a shocker to most people we've told since everyone knows that "Big Red" is charlie's baby.
so this was definitely a bittersweet day for him.
Big Red has way too many miles on it (over 220,000 i believe??) and it's been breaking apart and eating up our money. it was just time to get rid of it.
before he said his last good-bye's we snapped a few pictures with his pride and joy.

good -bye big red! charlie has had some wonderful memories with you. he'll miss you. i'm sure he already does.
crystal cove
wow i've been terrible at updating our blog!
i gotta work on that..
last week my lover boy had a day off work!
which never happens.
so naturally we took advantage of the day and went on a hike to the gorgeous Crystal Cove State Park. there's 3.5 miles of clean beach to catch some rays and 2400 acres of land to hike or horseback ride on.
it was SO fun to just get out in the fresh air, enjoy each other's company and get a little exercise in all at the same time.
in order to keep this state park clean and beautiful, there's a parking fee of $15. a little high but we were willing to pay it since this is probably the last time for a while we'll be able to do something like this. but when we reached the entrance we met one of the park rangers who noticed our Camp Pendleton sticker on our car. she then asked who in the car is currently serving and i said proudly "my husband" and she then said "go ahead and just drive on in, i won't charge you the $15. don't expect this every time..it's not the park's policy... but it's MY policy. thank you for serving!"
we graciously thanked her and while we continued on our way i looked over to charlie and i said "little things like that make you feel good for all your hard work, huh babe?" he smiled and said "yes." :)
while we started on the hike, we saw a ginormous swarm of bees that freaked me out. [look closely picture below and you'll see the bees] it was scarier in real life, k?! well..not to charlie. my macho man ;)
